Addiction Defined

Symptoms of Addiction

There are many types of addictions and these may include alcohol,
mood-altering drugs, pornography, and sex. Someone experiencing a problem
with addictions is most likely feeling some or all of the following
symptoms:

  • Consistent use of addicting substances such as alcohol, drugs, viewing
    pornography and sexual activity.
  • Inability to stop or cut down on the use despite expressing the desire to
    stop.
  • Denial that the addiction is a problem.
  • Blacking out because of the use of drugs and alcohol.
  • Continue use despite having a knowledge that the addiction is causing
problems with physical health, financially, vocational, legally, socially
    and with relationships.
  • Increased tolerance creating a need for more and more of the addicting
    substances.
  • Physical withdrawal symptoms of shaking, nausea, headaches, anxiety,
    insomnia, sweating, and depression.
  • Large time investment with the addicting substances.
