What's In A Name
Assessments in mental health
require the practitioner to identify information that will help the
practitioner plan treatment and predict outcome. The multi-axial
assessment has five axes:
-
Axis One--Clinical Disorders other than Mental
Retardation
-
Axis Two--Mental Retardation and
Personality Disorders
-
Axis Three--General Medical
Conditions
-
Axis Four--Psychosocial and
Environmental Problems
-
Axis Five--Global Assessment of
Functioning
While all of these Axes concern the mental health professional, because
they all contribute to treatment and outcome, Axis One is the primary
domain for the clinical therapist; it contains the majority of mental
health disorders. Focusing on Axis One, our counselors use cognitive and
behavioral techniques to assist clients in reaching their potential for
change.
So what is in a name? With Axis One, our name is our focus, and that
could mean the world to
you.
